Stanford Fiscal Year 2010/2011 - 4 New CARS Affiliates and 2 New Automotive Programs
As the Stanford community is entering a new fiscal year, the Center for Automotive Research at Stanford (CARS) is proud to have established formal relationships with four additional industry affiliates over the past 12 months. With PACCAR, Volvo Cars, Hyundai, and BMW, the automotive affiliates program is now a group of 10 member companies, with two more currently formalizing their partnership. The growth of the CARS community has been giving the program additional thrust to initiate research projects as well as educational activities addressing the needs and challenges of personal mobility in the 21st century.

With driver assistance, alternative energy, connected mobility, and mobile society being the main directions that are being pursued by CARS, the program is also proud that it was instrumental in establishing The Revs Program at Stanford and the fellowship program "Legal Aspects of Autonomous Driving. This is another important step in applying to automobiles and personal mobility the interdisciplinary thinking that Stanford is known for.

The four new industry affiliates that have joined the CARS program over the last months are similarly looking for interdisciplinary research directions and student groups to enrich the respective company's innovation portfolio. In general the companies are interested in research regarding Driver Assistance, Human Factors, Efficiency & Low Emission.
