Open Garage Talk with Carlos Ghosn - Video Recording Available

Open Garage Talk w/ Carlos Ghosn, April 1, 2013 On April 1, the Center for Automotive Research at Stanford (CARS) and the Revs Program at Stanford presented an evening with Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Mr. Ghosn's discussion focused on "Driving Technology: Autonomous Vehicles, Connected Cars and the Future of the Automobile". The event was attended by about 300 students, faculty, affiliates, and community members, which made it one of the most successful event CARS had every hosted.

After an hour-long reception that provided for ample opportunity for networking and to discuss various research and education programs, Mr. Ghosn opened the dialogue with remarks on electric, automated, and connected vehicles, highlighting the benefits and challenges that these technologies present. He also pointed out the innovative spirit that is necessary to bring those transformative concepts to public roads.

After the opening remarks Robert Burgelman, Professor at the Graduate School of Business, moderated questions with Mr. Ghosn that touched on technology, business, and economic topics. The two also discussed what today's students should consider to become future leaders in industry to address the challenges that the automobile and its industry are facing.

The dialogue was ended with many questions from the audience that covered topics from lightweight design, to open innovation and online services.
