Sven A. Beiker, PhDExecutive Director, Center for Automotive Research at Stanford Since 2008 Dr. Beiker has been overseeing the strategic planning, resources management, and project incubation for the Center for Automotive Research at Stanford (CARS). Besides managing the industry relationships, he holds teaching positions at Stanford's School of Engineering and the Graduate School of Business. He was instrumental in launching research programs at Stanford University in "Legal Aspects of Autonomous Driving" and "Wireless Power Transfer to a Moving Vehicle" as well as "The Revs Program at Stanford" and the "Volkswagen Automotive Innovation Lab". Before coming to Stanford, Dr. Beiker worked at the BMW Group for more than 13 year where his responsibilities included technology scouting, innovation management, systems design, and series development. He holds several patents in chassis and powertrain technologies. |
J. Christian Gerdes, Associate ProfessorDirector, Center for Automotive Research at Stanford and Dynamic Design Lab Professor Gerdes' research centers on the application of dynamic modeling to problems in nonlinear control, estimation and diagnostics. Specific areas of interest include the development of driver assistance systems for lane keeping and collision avoidance, modeling and control of novel combustion processes for Internal Combustion engines and diagnostics for automotive drive-by-wire systems. Prior to joining Stanford, Professor Gerdes was the project leader for vehicle dynamics at the Vehicle Systems Technology Center of Daimler-Benz Research and Technology North America. His work at Daimler focused on safety analysis and simulation-based design of heavy trucks for the Freightliner Corporation. |
Clifford Nass, Thomas M. Storke Professor at Stanford UniversityDirector, Revs Program at Stanford and CHIMe Lab Professor Nass founded and directs the Communication between Humans and Interactive Media (CHIMe) Lab and is the Director of the Revs Program at Stanford. The specific domains CHIMe focuses on are: Automobile Interfaces, Mobile Interfaces, Human-Robot Interaction, Cognitive and Social Effects of Multitasking, Adaptive and Personalized Systems, Voice Interfaces. His research focuses on (laboratory and field) experimental studies of social-psychological aspects of human-interactive media interaction. Specifically, Nass discovered that people use the same rules and heuristics when interacting with technology as they do when interacting with other people. This approach is called the "Computers are Social Actors" (CASA) paradigm or "The Media Equation" (media equals real life). |
